The nearest ski lifts of Cauterets and Hautecam are just thirty minutes away from Mas des Hirondelles. These offer a mixture of beginner blue runs to more advanced red and black runs. Explore a little further and you will find the La Mongie ski resort linked to Bareges, which is home to 69 runs, 43 separate ski lifts and chairs and over 100km of pistes.
If that still doesn’t meet your level of alpine adventure, cross country skiing is available almost anywhere during the winter season.
During the ski season, shuttle buses run from Argeles Gazost to the various resorts and so there is no requirement to drive, other than the 5km from Mas des Hirondelles down to Argeles Gazost.
The location of Mas des Hirondelles is conveniently located to allow you to visit 6 different quality ski venues in a week but each night return to the steam room, jacuzzi, massage room, log fire, cinema room and general superior comfort of Mas des Hirondelles!
Hautacam at 25km Altitude 1500-1800m – the lifts are visible from the terrace of Mas des Hirondelles so you can check weather conditions and know what to expect on arrival. At Hautacam there are 15 pistes covering 26 km of skiing. 5 green, 5 blue, 5 red, 9 lifts and a luge for summer or winter fun.
Cauterets at 21km Altitude 1850-2450m – a delightful alpine style village but in the Pyrénées(!) and caters for every taste. There are 23 pistes covering 36km of skiing. 5 green, 9 blue, 7 red, and 2 black, in addition a snowboard park.
Luz Ardiden at 32km 1800-2200m – there are 26 pistes here. 4 green, 4 blue, 15 red, 3 black, 15 lifts, 5 km Nordic trail, 90 snow guns, luge piste and snow park.
Gavarnie-Gedre at 41km 1650-2400m – this is something really special in the heart of the Parc National des Pyrénées, a unique setting which has been recognised as a world heritage site by UNESCO. Whatever you are looking for you will find this whole area stimulating, natural and enriching. There are 31 pistes covering 52 km of skiing. 7 green, 11 blue, 9 red, 4 black, snow park and luge pistes.
Grand Tourmalet-Bareges-La Mongie
Grand Tourmalet-Bareges-La Mongie at 30km 1250-2500m – one of the biggest resorts in our area but you will have it all with 69 pistes and 43 lifts (13 chair lifts including 3 declutching 6 mans’, 1 cabin lift, 1 telecabin, 26 ski lifts and 2 magic carpets) which represents 32km of lifts! In addition there are 170 snow guns, luge piste and a snow park. In addition, Bareges has 14km of trails and La Mongie has 2km. If you are looking for “off the beaten track” skiing, hiring a guide or instructor will open up another 1500m of skiing and a wonderfully long descent from Pic du Midi at the end of a day of hard skiing!
Pont d’Espagne at 1450+m – the heart of the Pyrénées National Park with its truly impressive waterfall and spectacular scenery, a picture in both winter and summer. Pont d’Espagne is 7km (about 15 minutes) beyond Cauterets. There are 36km of cross-country trails split into 5 loops including a 1.5km schooling trail. There’s also a chair lift and 2 ski lifts which cater for 6 km of pistes.
