Built to a superior standard, Mas des Hirondelles is a stunning, modern, well appointed property enjoying a wonderful location 600m high in the foothills of the Pyrénées close to the charming picturesque village of Salles Argeles. The main villa sleeps 10 guests comfortably.
Entry to Mas des Hirondelles is through electronically controlled gates and a video telephone system with sensor controlled lights line the drive to the front door. As well as cars, the double garage houses five bicycles and these are available for guests to use at their leisure. Mas des Hirondelles allows wheelchair access to the ground floor rooms and the terrace.
The Terrace, Swimming pool & Petanque Court
Immediately opposite the entrance to the house large sliding doors open onto the terrace, the swimming pool and the breathtaking mountain view.
The 10m x 5m heated pool is the perfect way to cool down after a long, lazy day in the sun. A small foot pool makes the ideal spot for young and old to get a feel for the water without getting too deep, while a solar shower is immediately on hand when you want to rinse down. The terrace and swimming pool area has been built with security in mind. All gates have locks and in addition the swimming pool has an electronically operated cover.
Overlooking the pool area, the terrace is an ideal area to eat, drink, entertain or simply relax and watch the world go by. Taking pride of place on the terrace is a large dining table, ideal for al fresco breakfast, lunch or dinner dining overlooking the pool and mountain valley. There is also a traditional Italian charcoal burner BBQ with “rapid fire” start up system for everyone to enjoy, or those of you who prefer the modern way, a gas BBQ is on hand! When the sun gets a bit strong a motorised sunblind can be extended over the terrace.
For our sporty guests, there is a purpose made petanque court. If you’ve never tried this popular French sport, now is the time to have a go. You may want to enjoy something a bit more energetic with badminton and table tennis also available. All equipment is provided.
The Ground Floor
Walking through the front door you enter the hall which, like all areas of the ground floor is fitted with Spanish floor tiles providing under floor heating for winter comfort. Directly opposite the entrance are large sliding patio doors which afford stunning views across the valley to the Pyrenean Mountains beyond. There is also a downstairs cloakroom.
This direct access to the terrace allows you to make the most of the fresh air and mountain scenery. Many visitors find that they use the large al fresco dining table on the terrace more than the more formal dining table inside.
The Living Area & Dining Area
The ground floor consists of an open plan lounge with log fire and deluxe seven seat settee, old-school record player with over 75 vinyls as well as a Bose docking station.
At the heart of the dining room is a three metre solid mahogany dining table with extensions and chairs to seat up to fourteen people. Alternatively, walk through the French doors or the double sliding doors to the terrace for a spot of alfresco dining.
The Kitchen Area
The open plan kitchen with breakfast bar is fitted with refrigerator/freezer (including ice-maker & water purifier), Smeg six ring gas hob and double oven, microwave, toaster, kettle, juicer, multi-variety coffee maker and dishwasher. A full range of utensils and cutlery is also provided, everything you need to prepare that cordon bleu feast! On days that you decide to truly relax, you may wish to call on the services of our local delicatessen in Argeles Gazost to prepare and deliver your meal.
Bedroom 2 & Adjacent Shower Room
Situated to the front of the ground floor is a double bedroom with 2m x 2m mahogany bed with stunning views over the surrounding Pyrénées. The bedroom has its own private access out on to the ground floor terrace and also benefits from its own separate shower room, toilet and wash basin.
Stairs lead directly up to the First Floor and the Mezzanine Lounge. All flooring on the first floor is wood with under floor heating and provides access to the master bedroom and bedrooms 3 and 4. There is 42″ wall mounted plasma TV connected to DVD and Satellite. There’s also a monocular available to do a spot of bird of prey watching, or view the ski lift at Hautacam to see if it is sufficiently pleasant to make the thirty minute trip to ski or to hike.
The master bedroom has been decorated with an oriental twist. The beautiful silk kimono hung to the right of the 2m x 2m mahogany bed adds to the calm serenity of this spacious room. The bed faces the large French doors, which open on to the impressive Pyrénées mountainscape. The master bedroom has a large en-suite bathroom with separate walk in shower, large bath, WC and double basin unit. If you’re holidaying with friends, remember to arrive early and “bagsy” this bedroom, perhaps by putting your pyjamas under the duck feather filled pillows!!
Perfectly decorated in a neutral colour palette, this double bedroom with 2m x 2m teak bed enjoys beautiful views. Keep the French doors on to the private terrace wide open in to the night, to enjoy the sunset. Opposite this bedroom there is a large private bathroom (with the biggest bath in the house!) and separate shower, WC and basin.
A secluded double bedroom with 2m x 2m teak bed is located at the end of the first floor corridor. Decorated in light, airy colours with splashes of dusty pink, bedroom 4 enjoys an en-suite bathroom with separate shower, wash basin and WC. French doors from the bedroom open on to a private balcony area with table and chairs overlooking the spectacular view.
Situated in the eaves of the house, bedroom 5 is the largest of all the bedrooms. This bedroom houses a double bunk with Japanese double tatami bed underneath and also has room for an additional double reclining futon. There is a large en-suite jet shower room with toilet and vanity unit, which also doubles up as the cinema cloakroom facilities when movie night is in progress!
The second floor is home to the ultimate “relaxation area”. This area includes a massage centre with a variety of equipment including the ultimate massage chair with eight full body massage programmes, a calf and foot massager, and a reflexology machine. Adjacent to the relaxation area is the study space. This is hooked up with a computer with broadband wireless internet connection.
Cinema Room & Library
The cinema room is kitted out with Cabesse speakers, Harman amplifier and Pioneer projector for screening onto the ten foot cinema wall. There are various settees, chairs and futons to seat ten cinema goers in comfort and our DVD library carries about 200 classic movies dating from the 1930’s through to present day action offering something for everyone. We also carry a great selection of about 400 books in our library area.
The Lower Ground Floor
For those of you that can’t break from your exercise schedule, we have a small amateur gym in the basement of the house. If after a while you decide that a little downtime is actually what you really need, just fire up the steam room, sit back and relax!
